The Middle and Lower Falls – and points in between!
The roar from the Middle Falls is deafening; the view is absolutely breathtaking. William P. Letchworth built his home right beside the Middle Falls so he could savour the grandeur every day.
And this was his view:
There are many lookout points along the way to the Lower Falls. Inspiration Point needs no explanation!
I got into trouble with the State Park staff, for crossing the barrier to take this shot. He was well within in his rights in giving me a lecture – this year alone two hikers have died doing the same silly thing. When you cross the barriers, you take the chance that you are standing on ground that is ready to give-way at any moment. I was chagrined – but happy to get the shot!!
After parking our vehicle, we walked along paths strewn with fallen leaves.
Over thousands of years, the surging current has carved caves into the limestone and shale face of the gorge
We left Letchworth State Park after five days. We will return one day, because there were so many trails that we were not able to hike. However, we headed for Watkins Glen, and that is the “stuff” of the next post!
No wonder I didn’t see you at the WCDR breakfast. What a fabulous introduction to us of a beautiful travel destination.

Hi Mary
Thanks for looking for me at the brekkie! I look forward to actually meeting you in person one day soon! I feel like I am still running around like the proverbial chicken with its head cut off….one day I will get re-organized from our trip and get back to some semblance of “normal”….whatever the heck that is nowadays!
Bette
Beautiful photos, Bette. You’ve showcased another spectacular destination for us.
